 The Chairman of the Parliamentary Political Group “European Socialists” Fridon Injia took part in an online meeting held at the initiative of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe with representatives of the Venice Commission and parliamentary opposition factions and political groups on the 2021 amendment to the Organic Law of Georgia.

 In his speech, Fridon Injia focused on the issue of a judge’s business trip to another court.

 “I will start with the issue of the term of the judge’s business trip to another court. As you know, Article 37 Prima has been newly introduced in the law and the maximum term of a judge’s visit to another court has been increased by one year. “I think that a judge who leaves his / her place of residence with or without his / her consent and carries out his / her activities away from his / her family deserves additional service in the form of incentives from the state.” – said Fridon Injia at the online meeting.

 As for the lifting of the ban on electing the same person to the High Council of Justice twice in a row, the chairman of the political group said he shared the negative assessments of the law and said that banning the election of the same person twice as a member of the Council of Justice would be a matter of judicial independence. An additional guarantee of impartiality and democracy.

 Some interest on the part of the representatives of the Venice Commission aroused the proposal of Fridon Injia to impose additional service remuneration on the judge as an incentive from the state. According to the representatives of the Venice Commission, they will return to this issue in the future due to the importance and interest of the issue.

The need for municipal hospitals in all regions of Georgia and the creation of a state-owned pharmaceutical company was addressed by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Political Group “European Socialists” Fridon Injia in his speech to the Supreme Legislature, where the Minister of Health and Social Affairs.

“Recently, 95 %s were sold to state-owned polyclinics and hospitals, and due to the pandemic, you were forced to pay an additional millions of lakhs already to private medical facilities. God forbid such pandemics happen, but the country must always be ready for anything. Therefore, I would open municipal hospitals in all regions. Doing so with modern technology is much easier than restoring old hospitals that were built to different standards during the Soviet period. Municipal hospitals need to be in all regions and can be done freely. It is also important in the future to open outpatient clinics in villages and hamlets with a population of more than 3,000, “said Fridon Injia.

According to the MP, he welcomes the reduction of prices for medicines in the state, but believes that it is temporary.

. “I would like to focus on the issue of lower prices for medicines. Indeed, that decision is welcome. It was the initiative of the Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili personally and he did a great job with it, but I believe that the situation may change in a year or a half. I still think this is temporary, while the manufacturers of the drugs are private companies. Here is one thing to do for sure. I have talked about this before, the Ministry of Health should set up at least one pharmaceutical company under its auspices. In the leading countries of Europe, half of the medical institutions are subordinated to the state, and half are owned by private companies. The state-owned pharmaceutical company will produce the medicines that are most in demand and most needed by our population. Only then will you be able to adjust the prices of medicines. This is the only solution to the problem and I have talked about this issue many times and I repeat and I am sure that it is so, “said Fridon Injia.

In his speech, Fridon Injia praised the work of the healthcare system during the pandemic and noted that the Georgian healthcare system has withstood this challenge.

“I have to tell you that these two years were really a test of this system. The health care system and this team did what they had to do. However, during this period many things also appeared that need to be remedied. The pandemic has shown that there is a shortage of medical staff in the country, both in terms of qualifications and quantity. “Of course, they are heroes, what they did in this short period of time, they even learned and gained experience,” said the chairman of the political group.

Fridon Injia called on the Minister of Health that his agency should focus on and strengthen control over financial expenditures in various private clinics, as he said that there are examples when patients are presented with double expenditures in one or another medical clinic.

In addition, the chairperson of the political group considers it a necessary condition to develop a special incentive, complex, government program for medical staff, which will be an important step forward in terms of health system development.

The Chairman of the European Socialist Political Group of the Parliament of Georgia, Fridon Injia, took part in a meeting with the Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), Matteo McCach, and the accompanying delegation.

At the meeting, Fridon Injia thanked ODIHR Director Mateo McCach and members of the delegation for the work they have done to establish a new electoral system in Georgia.

“The OSCE / ODIHR plays a major role in shaping the new electoral system in Georgia. We “European Socialists” as well as “citizens” took part in the drafting of the Code. The current election code differs from the previous election code in both heaven and earth. “This is a step forward and the OSCE / ODIHR has helped us a lot,” Fridon Injia said at the meeting.

According to the chairman of the political group, he does not agree with the opinion expressed at the meeting by the representative of the “National Movement”, as if the society in Georgia today is polarized.

“I do not agree with the conclusion of the” National Movement “and the statement that the society is polarized. I would say that two or three parties are polarized in Georgia today. On one side is the “Dream” and on the other side is the “National Movement” and several other parties. This is a polarization between these two parties, while in the society, especially in the districts, there is no village at all. So this is fiction. I repeat that polarization is among the first persons. “Saakashvili is from here and the leadership of the Dream is from there,” said Fridon Injia.

As the MP said at the meeting, it is important to make a decision on amendments to the Constitution, which will be a step forward to make the parliament multi-party.

“This issue is important today, because in such a small country like Georgia there are so many parties, and as a result of these changes, the parliament will be multi-party, which reflects the interests of the population,” said Fridon Injia.
Regarding Georgia’s accession to the European Union, the MP noted that a lot of work is needed and it is not an easy process, the most important thing is the rule of law in the country.
“In order to take steps towards EU membership, it is necessary to find a common language between both the government and the opposition, and I believe that a common language can be found when there is the rule of law in the country. “Whoever is guilty should be imprisoned, it does not matter which party he represents or who he is,” Fridon Injia said at the meeting.
