📍 Chairman of the parliamentary political group “European Socialists” Fridon Injia appeals to the ruling political power to reconsider the issue of the need for the existence of the Public Defender’s Institute in Georgia.

🔹 Fridon Injia announced this at the session of the Bureau of the Parliament of Georgia, where they discussed the issue of electing the public defender within the framework of the agenda of the autumn session.

🔹 “Georgian Dream” has announced that they will not present the candidacy of the Public Defender.

🔹 A certain part of the opposition thinks not to participate in this process. In the constitution, we have the institution of the public defender. There are several countries in the world where there is such an institution, but in such democratic countries as the United States of America, as well as Germany, France, there is no such institution anywhere,” said Fridon Injia at the Bureau session.

🔹 According to him, if this institution is not needed, then appropriate changes should be made.

🔹 “Let’s make changes and remove this institution from the constitution, or ask the people and hold a referendum. And when a consensus will be reached regarding a specific candidacy, which will be acceptable to everyone, then it is possible to adopt a law. I think this issue is not the most important in the life of the country. Let’s all fulfill and enforce the law, and maybe this institution won’t even be needed”, Fridon Injia added.
