The head of the parliamentary opposition political group "European Socialists" Fridon Indzhiya took part in the online meeting of the representatives of the Venice Commission with the deputies of the opposition factions and political groups regarding the amendments introduced in 2021 to the Law of Georgia "On General Courts".
The meeting was organized on the initiative of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
In his speech, Fridon Indzhiya focused attention on official business trips of judges to other courts.
«I will start with the question about the terms of the commander's orders. As you know, Article 37 is newly formulated in the Law1, and the maximum term of the judge's assignment in another court increased to one year. "I think that a judge who leaves his place of permanent residence and works away from his family deserves additional encouragement from the state", - noted deputy Indzhiya.
Regarding the lifting of the ban on re-election for a second term to the Supreme Council of Justice of one and the same person, Fridon Indzhiya emphasized that he shares the negative opinions expressed on this occasion and believes that the ban on re-election would serve as an additional guarantee for the independence, impartiality, objectivity and democracy of the judicial system. в стране.
The representatives of the Venetian Commission were interested in the initiative expressed by Fridon Indzhia regarding additional incentives for judges sent on long-term assignments to other courts and, based on the importance of the issue, intend to return to its discussion in the future.
