🔹 This statement was made by the chairman of the political group "European Socialists" Fridon Injia at the plenary session of the Parliament during the discussion of the constitutional amendment bill, according to which the procedure for electing the Prosecutor General is changed.
🔹 According to him, Georgia is already a candidate for membership in the European Union, just like Turkey, which made a corresponding application to the European Union in 1993.
🔹 "Do you mean any of the 27 member states of the European Union, which changed the constitution at the request of the European Union?" Is there a possibility that the European structures will send another letter, as was the case with the 12-point resolution, in the development of which the Georgian authorities did not participate, in which they demand that the issue of the declaration of confidence in the government, the audit service, the special investigative commission and AS Wouldn't it be better if we made this change in advance so that this letter would no longer be sent from there? Does this violate the rights of the country and the people living in this country? It turns out that we accept the constitution temporarily, and the Georgian constitution is a pawn of European structures", said Fridon Injia.
🔹 According to the presented project, the Parliament of the next two convocations will elect the Prosecutor General with the majority of three fifths of the full composition, ie 90 votes. In the event that the Parliament fails to elect the Prosecutor General twice, then the Prosecutor General will be elected by the majority of the full membership, ie 76 votes, and his term of office will be determined for one year instead of 6 years.
