📍 At the plenary session of the Parliament of Georgia, the deputies discussed the need to protect the indigenous Georgian languages – Megruli, Svanuri, Lazuri and Tsova-Tushuri at the state level, on which the chairman of the parliamentary political group “European Socialists” Fridon Injia stated his position.
🔷 The chairman of the political group, after the beginning of the work of the parliament of the tenth convocation, repeatedly raised the issue before the legislative body, both at the plenary session and at the committee discussions, about the preservation of the ancient and UNESCO-protected Georgian languages. In this regard, Fridon Injia proposed his own initiatives to the government.
🔷 At today’s session, the deputy noted that the indigenous Georgian languages are facing the danger of being lost, which is unacceptable, given that these languages nurture the Georgian language and are a part of Georgia’s identity.
🔷 It should be noted that at the session of the Parliament on February 22, 2024, unprecedentedly in the course of parliamentary history, as an exception, depending on the importance of the topic, the speeches on this issue were held in Maghreb, Svan and Georgian languages.
🔷 “It’s a happy day for me. I’m not going to start talking in a bad way here, however, I’m not that bad. Because the Maghrelian language is my mother tongue – “Nanash Ninae” – (mother’s language), with which I learned the language.

🔷 Maghrian and Svan languages nourish the Georgian language. However, today the Georgian language also has a big problem.
🔷 My initiative does not need a big solution. Nor is the law acceptable. This can be freely decided by the Ministry of Education.
🔷 To a certain extent, I have prepared this topic and worked on the issue of what the Ministry of Education should do. In particular, those who would like to include the basic teaching of Georgian languages in the curriculum in schools and other educational institutions, even in specific regions, but this initiative cannot be implemented without the help of the state. – said the deputy.
🔷 Fridon Injia in his speech focused on the need to implement the law on the Georgian language, which is violated today in some cases. In particular, this refers to the sending of phone messages by state agencies not in the Georgian alphabet, but in the Latin script.
🔷 “Today, the Maghrian and Svan languages can really be saved. A Georgian table will not pass without singing a Georgian song. This is our life. The Maghrian language is a very big language in its greatness.
🔷 In the Maghrian language, such definitions and words with a deep meaning have been preserved and preserved, which can rarely be found elsewhere.
🔷 Karian language is also in a difficult situation. The state institution writes and sends the message in Latin letters. The law on “Georgian language” is not implemented. This should be one of the main tasks of the parliament.” – Fridon Injia believes.
