Minister of Finance Lasha Khutsishvili was listened to in the “Minister’s Hour” format at the plenary session of the Parliament of Georgia.
🔷 “What is your vision regarding the creation of a digital bank?”
🔷 Certain countries are already working in this direction, and it is possible that the digital bank will be relatively accessible to the population on preferential terms and it will regulate the monopoly that exists in the banking sector today. – said Fridon Injia in his question.
🔷 The chairman of the political group once again drew attention to the need to create one state bank in the country. According to him, if the government cannot make a decision to create one state bank, maybe it will be possible to create a digital bank, which will really be able to solve the current problems in the banking system and the absence of banking monopoly.
“I made a statement several times and appealed to the government to create at least one state bank where the state will have a control package of at least 51%. Among the exemplary countries are the United States of America and China. There are 4 state banks in China. That is, there was something acceptable and interesting for the state. I would say that China is in the first place in the world in terms of its development in many different ways. If the creation of a state bank does not work out, what do you think about the creation of a digital bank?” said the MP.
🔷 The chairman of the political group also asked the Minister of Finance whether it is possible for Georgia to cooperate with other international financial institutions, which are created as a result of large-scale geopolitical changes in today’s world, in parallel with the IMF.
🔷 “Traditionally, we are focused on the currency fund. Today, the political situation in the world is changing so rapidly that new financial opportunities are being created.
🔷 How do you think it is possible for Georgia to simultaneously cooperate with the international financial organization BRICS Bank, which was created by such countries as China, India, Brazil, the African Republic and Russia, and other leading countries of the world were added to their ranks”. – said Fridon Injia.
🔷 On the other hand, the Minister of Finance Lasha Khutsishvili said that the National Bank has taken some steps regarding the digital bank. Quite important reforms are being carried out. Naturally, these initiatives have appropriate support from the Government of Georgia.
🔷 “If I remember correctly, several licenses have been issued by the state in this direction.
🔷 Accordingly, it is possible to discuss in detail the framework in which the mentioned banking institutions fall.
🔷 More specifically, I think that on Friday the Acting President of the National Bank, Natia Turnava, will present information in the “interpellation format” to the Parliament of Georgia in connection with the digital bank. – said Lasha Khutsishvili.
