"European Socialists"ODIHR and the delegation of the Venice Commission talked about the project of changes to be introduced in the election code

The delegation of the political group "European Socialists" spoke about the importance of switching to the electronic election system and eliminating the illegal use of administrative resources during the meeting with the delegation of the OSCE-ODIHR and the Venice Commission in the Parliament.

The members of the joint delegation of the OSCE Office of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights and the Venice Commission were interested in the draft amendments to the Election Code, which the Parliament has already voted for in the first reading.

As the chairman of "European Socialists" Fridon Injia said at the meeting, the most important change is the implementation of the voting and counting process by electronic method.

Besides, according to the deputy, it is most important to eliminate the issue of using administrative resources, although doubling the fine in this direction will be ineffective.  

"I did not actively support the doubling of fines to eliminate the use of administrative resources in the pre-election period. Strict administrative action is required. A person who tries to commit an illegal act should no longer have the right to work in the public service and should serve his sentence in prison. And in case of doubling the fine, this fine will be paid by the customer and not by the executor", said Fridon Injia.

According to him, the procedure for electing the chairman of the Central Election Commission, which is currently being elected for a period of 6 months due to the lack of the required 90 votes, needs to be corrected.  

"This is abnormal - we elect the government with 76 votes, and the CEC chairman with 90 votes. This is the retreat of the ruling party and its inconsistent action", said Fridon Injia.  

As Davit Zilfimian, a member of the political group "European Socialists", said, electronic elections will solve all the problems related to elections, if it includes not only the electronic voting process, but also the electronic identification of the voter, the so-called. as a video-image. 

"I am less critical about the current changes and I am shifting the main focus to the 5% electoral threshold, which remains unchanged to this day. I am in favor of reducing the threshold to approximately 2.51 TP2T, which will give small parties a chance to leave, and entities that have crossed the threshold - an opportunity to form their own group or faction," said Davit Zilfimian.

"The draft law on deoligarchization is unconstitutional."

Chairman of the parliamentary political group "European Socialists" Fridon Injia stated about this in the "Alternative Vision" program of "Alt-Info" TV.

"We will be against this draft law until the end, because it contradicts the Constitution of Georgia. the so-called Entering a person into the register, declaring him an oligarch without having the right to appeal, is against Article 31 of the Constitution of Georgia. A citizen should have the right to appeal any decision. If the parliament adopts the draft law "on deoligization" in this form, we will file a constitutional lawsuit in the Constitutional Court", said Fridon Injia.

According to the deputy, the ruling party very skillfully used the law of Ukraine and transferred it to Georgia one by one.

"If the law is acceptable in Ukraine, logically, it should be acceptable here as well." If the concept of an oligarch fits into the parameters of the reality in Ukraine, then it should also fit here, and in such a case, many people, including those from the opposition, can be included in this list. Therefore, the ruling party is trying to kill two birds with one stone. "At the same time, the conclusion of the OSCE/ODIHR regarding the said draft law, which the ruling party is waiting for," said the deputy.

The chairman of the political group believes that the government should pay more attention and continue working in the direction of economic development and strengthening of the country, as well as in terms of peace policy, the results of which we are witnessing today.

"It is the country's interests and state thinking that are more important than the implementation of the 12-point plan, for which the current government is striving. It is important to implement a rigid policy, in which, unfortunately, our government will falter," Fridon Injia added.

The chairman of the parliamentary political group "European Socialists" Fridon Injia evaluates the last document published by the European Parliament, which calls on the Georgian authorities to release Mikheil Saakashvili from prison, as a gross interference in state affairs.

"This is clearly interference in Georgia's internal affairs. This is an insult to the state, the constitution, the laws that expose the criminal. In practice, they are telling us to release the guilty. A criminal is a criminal, not only according to Georgian legislation, but also according to their legislation. According to the document, the European Parliament once again calls on the Georgian authorities to release former President Mikheil Saakashvili and allow him to undergo appropriate treatment abroad for humanitarian purposes and use this as a means of reducing political polarization.

Regarding the case of Badri Japaridze and Mamuka Khazaradze, the chairman of the political group noted that if they had any crime, the relevant agencies should have made a decision regarding them a little earlier, before Japaridze and Khazaradze got involved in politics.
