At the meeting of the Legal Affairs Committee of the Parliament, Fridon Injia submitted his own initiative in the second reading regarding the amendments to the Election Code, according to which persons without an electronic identification card will be able to use the right to vote granted by the country's constitution and participate in the elections.

📍 The chairman of the political group "European Socialists" of the Parliament of Georgia, Fridon Injia, at the meeting of the Parliament's Legal Affairs Committee, presented his own initiative in the second reading regarding the amendments to the Election Code, according to which persons without an electronic identification certificate will be able to use the right to vote granted by the country's constitution and take part in the elections.

🔷 Regarding this issue, last week, on the initiative of the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, a meeting was held in the Parliament, where the representatives of the parliamentary majority, the opposition, and the Ministry of Justice participated.

🔷 At the meeting, an opinion was expressed that the government of the country should take responsibility and use its own funds to replace the old laminated ID cards with new electronic ID cards free of charge, which should include a full service. As for citizens who refuse to change their ID cards due to religious or other special motivations, this issue should also be taken into account by the authorities.

🔷 Fridon Injia believes that the changes presented by him apply to those people who refuse to change their ID cards due to religious or other special reasons, therefore, the government must take this issue into account and decide on the legislative level and protect the right to vote in the elections granted to these citizens by the constitution. .

🔷 "I think that the draft law should be accepted by the Parliament of Georgia as it is presented. By adopting these changes, the law guarantees those citizens who do not want to change their ID cards, and in this case their number does not matter. The law must be perfect. All citizens of Georgia should have the right and the opportunity to participate in non-governmental organizations. - noted Fridon Injia.

🔷 The Legal Affairs Committee of the Parliament voted for the legislative initiative of Fridon Injia in the second reading and unanimously supported it.
